In 2012, ReStart Slovakia was one of six challenges in the CEE region – all supported by TechSoup Global and the local United States Embassy – that create a platform for civil society activism in each country and aim to return civil society’s power base to the people. Local Slovak Partner is Center for Philanthropy.
ReStart Challenges lead to more engaged and active citizens, who push for local transparency and accountability and thereby create stronger countries and economies.
The Challenges offer those who want to create, engage, and lead the opportunity to work with a range of technologists to transform locally relevant ideas into working Internet and mobile solutions.
With the support of a strong community, the ideas were shared online on the platform restartslovensko.techsoupglobal.org, then narrowed down to seven finalists, who receive help to build prototype versions of their technical solutions. At the culminating awards event, three winners were selected. Other three winners were selected due to their support from the public on the online giving platform www.ludialudom.sk.
The winners received ongoing support to launch their applications.
